The Osmo Action 6 is the first action camera that behaves like a real camera. A bigger sensor and an adjustable aperture mean cleaner footage when the light drops, and that’s where most small cameras fall apart.

It isn’t perfect. But if you’re choosing one action cam for vlogging, music videos or B-roll in 2026, this is the one to beat.

What’s new, in plain English

A bigger sensor

The sensor is 1/1.1-inch, up from 1/1.3-inch on the Action 5 Pro. A bigger sensor catches more light. You see it as less grain in pubs, gigs, streets at night and indoor shoots.

An aperture you can change

The lens runs from f/2.0 to f/4.0. Open it right up in low light. Close it down in bright sun to keep the shutter speed sensible and your motion looking natural, the way a cinema camera works. Most action cams are stuck at one setting.

A square sensor

Shoot once and frame it later as landscape for YouTube or vertical for Shorts and Reels. If you post to both, that saves a second take.

Which bundle to buy

Standard Combo (£329 at launch): the camera and one battery. Fine if you shoot in short bursts.

Adventure Combo (£415 at launch): three batteries, a charging case, a 1.5m extension rod and extra mounts. If you vlog for a full day, get this one.

Advanced Combos on Amazon: Amazon UK also sells the Street Photography Advanced Combo and the Vlog Advanced Combo, each with extra accessories for that style of shooting. Check what’s in the box and compare the price against buying the Standard Combo plus the bits you need.

How we tested it

[Where and how you used it. E.g. two music video shoots, a day of walk-and-talk vlogging in Cardiff, a night shoot. Say which modes and settings you used.]

Battery & heat[8.0]

Value[8.0]

Image quality

[Daylight, skin tones, colour. Did you shoot D-Log M and grade it in DaVinci Resolve? How did it hold up?]

Tip: the default sharpening is strong. Turn it down in the settings for a more natural, filmic look.

Low light

This is the reason to buy it. A bigger sensor plus an f/2.0 lens means cleaner footage once the sun goes down.

[Your night test: street, gig or indoor. Where did noise start to show? Did you use SuperNight mode?]

Stabilisation

[Walking, running, in a car, handheld pans. Did HorizonSteady keep things level?]

Audio

Three built-in mics handle a talking head in a quiet room. For anything outdoors, pair a DJI Mic 2 or Mic Mini straight to the camera with no receiver.

[How did the built-in mics cope with wind? How did the wireless mic sound?]

Battery, heat and handling

DJI’s 240-minute figure is for 1080p with the screens off. Expect a lot less at 4K or 8K, and plan for a spare battery on long shoots.

[Your real recording time at 4K/60. Did it get hot or stop recording? How were the menus and mounts?]

What we liked

  • Bigger sensor and adjustable aperture for low light
  • Waterproof to 20m with no case
  • Square sensor: one take for landscape and vertical
  • [your own pro]

What we didn’t

  • Default sharpening is heavy-handed
  • GoPro-style finger mounts need an adapter
  • [your own con]

Alternatives to consider

  • GoPro Hero 13 Black: pick it if you already own GoPro mounts and accessories. It’s waterproof to 10m, half the Action 6’s depth.
  • Insta360 Ace Pro 2: also shoots 8K and has a strong editing app. Waterproof to 12m.
  • DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro: the older model. Smaller sensor. Worth a look if you find it discounted.

Verdict

[Your final call in two or three sentences, from your testing.]

For most UK creators choosing one action camera right now, the Osmo Action 6 is the easy recommendation. Get the Adventure Combo if you shoot for a full day.
